Term 3 ILT Projects

Remote Learning has not stopped students in Alveare from exploring through Independent Learning Time (ILT). ILT provides the perfect opportunity for students to have choice over their learning as they focus on an area of particular interest to them - asking questions, exploring and discovering through research, play, problem solving and creativity. Many students have worked through all 4 stages of our ILT process this term. 

The first stage, Question, is all about asking questions! Students can begin this stage by brainstorming questions they have about a particular topic. Topics might include (but are definitely not limited to) Space, Plants, Animals, Food, Earth, Health, Robotics, Transport, Weather, Ancient Worlds, Early Civilisations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures, Middle Ages, Government and Democracy, Laws and Citizens, Places and Environments. The list is endless!! 

The second stage is Research. Students are encouraged to research their question through a variety of sources, such as through books, websites, interviews, surveys, encyclopedias, documentaries and observations. This week we have started to learn about Bibliographies as a way of keeping track of what resources we have used. 

The third stage, Create, gives students the opportunity to present their learning in a way that makes sense to them and the area they have learnt about. The project might be presented as a book, song, poem, sculpture, model, poster, play, slideshow, report, survey, podcast, painting.  Students are encouraged to make a plan, using drawings, labels and lists, before they begin creating their piece. They may also share their plans with others to gain feedback or additional ideas from peers.

The final stage is Share. This is a really exciting stage of the ILT process but it can be a little daunting as well. Speaking in front of a group of people can be scary, and this term we had the added hurdle of speaking about and presenting learning online through a video chat. We have been so impressed by students' bravery and confidence in sharing their ILT projects through both WebEx and SeeSaw. We have used our daily Morning Check-ins to share regular updates on projects and also to present the final pieces. Students have displayed their learning through the creation of posters, slide shows, informative texts, artwork, short films, books, models and more!

Many students have already started to think about what their next ILT project might be about!
