Electric Cars

During our investigation into what it means to be a 'global citizen' we have been celebrating some of the wonderful contributions people and organisations make to help the world. We have been lucky enough to have Janet come in and talk to us about how she and some of her students helped to build a school in Cambodia. We also had Wendy (456 teacher) speak to us about Malawi and a boy called William who built a windmill using scraps of old metal. This windmill helped the town to pump water and power lights.

More recently, Ed brought to our attention the Tesla car. He explained to us that they were electric and didn't need any petrol. Thanks to this spark we decided to investigate further. The children researched electric cars and thought about the reduced impact they could have on our environment. Next, we were really lucky to have Linda come in and share her Tesla car with us. Linda told us all about her car and how she charges it using her solar panels.

Below are some photos and some of the thoughts from the children.

Atticus - When you walk near the car it just opens. You can do things with it using your phone.

Edie - I learnt that the car makes no sound and the really fast ones go 100km an hour in 3.8 seconds.

Lilly - I like how it has so many batteries and even though you think they are in the boot they are not and there is nothing in the front.

Oskar C - Electric gas cars have no gas spitting out of them at the back.

Fraser T - It had 2 boots one at the back and one at the front.

Matthew - It has 6,000 normal sized batteries.

Milo - It helps the environment. Well instead of pushing out back stuff like gas, it just pushes air out of the way.

Ted O - It has like 6,000 batteries or something. It also has a cool key. The key looks like the car but mini.

Ted C - There are zero exhaust fumes.

Violet - One day my Mum was looking in a magazine and she saw Linda in it, with her car.

Elli - Linda called her car Christine.

Claudia - If you press a button in the car there is a big screen and you can just say the Beetles and it comes on.

Jude E - It's key is a Tesla car.

Kai - It has no oil in it. You don't need to take it to the mechanic you can just connect to the internet and they fix it.

Harriet - There is a big screen in the car.

Stanley - I really liked this car because it can go fast and also you can use a little car key to open the door.
