What is Maths Menu all about in Alveare?

What is Maths Menu?

It is when you get to choose your task and you figure out the answer. 

Then you get a conference to find out if you did it properly. 



















There is a checklist and when you have finished a task you get it ticked off. 

There are different coloured tasks, red, blue, green, orange. These show what kind of maths the tasks are. The different types are geometry, number and algebra, measurement and statistics and probability. 

When you get your task ticked off, you look at the colour of the task on the wall and then you have to colour in your checklist that same colour. 

Why do we do it?

Maths Menu is something that helps you learn and is also something that can help you when you're working, like if you become a mathematician.
Maths Menu helps you because instead of doing some sums it describes what you need to do, like a story. 
When you conference with a teacher, the teacher can give you feedback and set you a goal for the task.

Maths Menu is part of our maths curriculum at BEPS. 
A number of tasks covering each strand of the AUSVELS (Australian Curriculum/Victorian Essential Learning Standards) are available for students to choose from, to work on independently or with a small group. These open-ended tasks are designed with multiple 'entry points' in mind, meaning they can be accessed at any level of ability, and extended according to individual needs. When students have finished a task, they then conference it with a teacher to ensure that it is finished to the best of their ability, and to give students feedback on the strategies and processes they used to solve the problem.
