Mount Morton Camp 2014
DAY 1
There was thunder and lightning, train stations were closed and roads were flooded, but nothing was stopping Alveare from going on camp!
Gumboots, raincoats, sleeping bags and a murmur of anticipation filled the hall on Monday morning. Chris lead the charge as the students excitedly boarded the buses...some parents had trouble saying goodbye, but the kids were off!
After an hour of 'are we there yet?' and a bit of driving in circles from the bus driver, we arrived at Mount Morton. Negotiation skills came out as top and bottom bunks were decided. I might note here that the cabins were looking quite neat at this point...
The rain came out to play but luckily our host Shane and his team had some wet weather games at the ready.
After lunch we got stuck into our first round of activities. The flying fox and giant swing were a hit for the adrenaline junkies.
The initiatives showed off our fine teamwork skills.
Archery proved tricky but some people still managed to get a bullseye!
The rock climbing wall had a glow in the dark option which was fun for everyone.
In the afternoon there was some free time to relax before dinner.
After dinner we really got into the camping spirit around the campfire.
We toasted marshmallows, sang songs, played games and were even joined by a kookaburra and tawny frogmouth.
DAY 2
We began with a hearty breakfast to get our energy levels up for the big day ahead. A little drizzle cleared up and off we went to our next rotation of activities.
Some people had success building huts and others were rained on. Either way we learnt new strategies for that rainy day when we are stuck outside and need shelter.
During the course of the day, Shona took the Candid Cabin Camera for an outing and made a few discoveries...
After lunch we completed our activity rotations.
Then it was rehearsal time before the main event - the Talent Show. Our lovely host Edie welcomed the judges Harmony, Minerva, Calamity Jane and Run-With-It.
The crowd was entertained by gymnastics, dancing, wriggly worms, mad meditation and more. Congratulations to all the performers who showed their courage performing in front of everyone on the big stage.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for...the disco! DJ Mel and her helpers had the d-floor pumping as the sparkly outfits and hair gel came out. Siam, Ethan, Louiza and Lola led the way as they busted out their moves.
After a big day we relaxed after dinner with sleeping bags, pillows and a movie.
DAY 3
Bicicletta arrived and brought the sunshine with them. We quickly packed our cabins up (well, not so quickly for those whose cabins looked like a tornado had passed through) and headed out to play some games. The highlight of the morning was definitely the tug-of-war.
We got to have lunch with our friends in Bicicletta before saying thanks to our host Shane and heading off in the bus back to school. There were lots of hugs for mums and dads before going home for a big sleep. Teachers too!
Camp was a huge success and lots of fun for everyone. We can't wait til next year!
Sunday: I grabbed a leaf on the flying fox
Aleana: I was scared to pull the rope but it was really fun when I was swinging
Alex: The giant swing was definitely my favourite activity
Olive and Lizzie: We liked the movie
Mia: The most fun thing was when we toasted marshmallows on the campfire
Lenny: Minerva was my favourite judge because she was evil
Freddie M: I liked playing soccer and shooting goals in basketball
Matthew: In hut building we made a hut which when the teachers poured water on it we did not get wet
Finn: The flying fox went super fast
Jonah and Freddie R: We liked every single thing there
Ed and Oliver: Cabins with my friends were fun; I never knew Mark was so fast
Connor and Oscar: My two favourite things were the giant swing and the flying fox
Matilda: The giant swing was my favourite
Lila: I liked seeing everyone going on the giant swing
